East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State had two players honored with Big Ten weekly awards on Tuesday, as redshirt junior Emerson Sargeant (Hartland, Mich.) was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and keeper Noelle Henning (Milton, Ontario) was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Â
Â
Sargeant, who was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week as an honorable mention selection, had three goals last week - the game-winner in MSU's 2-1 victory on the road at Minnesota, and then a pair of scores (and the game-winner) in the Spartans' 6-0 win over No. 20 Wisconsin in Madison.
Â
The redshirt junior returned to the field this season after missing most of 2024 with an injury, and has regained her scoring touch - she is now one goal shy of the career-best four she posted in her sophomore season (2023), and has helped MSU to a 3-0-2 start to the Big Ten season with ties against No. 4 UCLA and the win over No. 20 Wisconsin.
Â
Henning has played in four of MSU's five Big Ten contests, and last week stopped seven of the eight shots she faced and recorded her third shutout of the season against the 20th ranked Badgers on Sunday. She owns a 0.50 GAA (third, B1G) and .889 save percentage (second, B1G) in Conference games with a 3-0-1 record, and earned shutouts against both USC and Wisconsin so far.Â
Â
This is the second straight week that MSU has captured a weekly award, as junior Kennedy Bell was the B1G Offensive Player of the Week last Tuesday (9/23) in addition to earning Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week distinction. She earned the awards with three goals and an assist for seven points against No. 4 UCLA and Southern Cal. Bell followed up her awards with a goal and a pair of assists in the Wisconsin game.Â
Â
MSU has one lone game this week, as it hosts Ohio State in a Sunday game at DeMartin Stadium that will air live on the Big Ten Network. Game time is set for 2 pm. Â
