Spartans Tie for Sixth Place at the Windon Memorial Classic

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team put two among the top-20 overall, shot a 7-under par 281 in the final round and tied for sixth place among 16 teams at the Windon Memorial Classic at the Knollwood Club (par-72, 7,202-yards) in Lake Forest, Ill.
MSU had entered the final day of play in eighth place and moved up with its final round to finish at 16-under 848 (289-278-281).
Illinois won the tournament, firing a 36-under par 828, three shots ahead of New Mexico, second at 30-under par 831. Ohio State placed third at 21-under par 843, with Northwestern fourth at 18-under par 846, Notre Dame fifth at 17-under par 847 and the Spartans tied with Kansas for sixth place.
The Spartans were paced on Tuesday by graduate Ashton McCulloch and senior Caleb Bond.
McCulloch fired a 4-under par 68 in the final round and tied for 14th place at 5-under par 211 (74-69-68). He tied for 11th in the field with 38 pars over three rounds and had 11 birdies.
Bond, meanwhile, shot a 3-under par 69 on Tuesday to also tied for 14th place at 5-under par 211 (72-70-69). Bond was third in the field during the tournament with 15 birdies.
Junior Lorenzo Pinili tied for 21st place at 3-under par 213 (72-68-73). Pinili was tied for 12th in the field with 13 birdies.
Junior Lucas Acevedo finished in a tie for 38th place at even-par 216 (71-74-71) and sophomore Drew Miller is tied for 83rd place at 9-over par
Playing as an individual, sophomore Juan Velasquez tied for 47th place at 2-over par 218 (74-71-73).
Michigan State's next event is the St. Andrews Links Collegiate, being held at the historic St. Andrews course in Scotland, from Monday, Oct. 13 to Wednesday, Oct. 15. Live coverage will air on The Golf Channel.
