Men’s Golf Back in Eighth Place After Day One of the Windon Memorial

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team fired a 10-under par 278 in the second round and is in eight place among 16 teams after the first day of play at the Windon Memorial Classic at the Knollwood Club (par-72, 7,202-yards) in Lake Forest, Ill.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament closes on Tuesday, Sept. 30 for a final round. Three teams in the 16-team field did not complete Monday afternoon's second round and that will be completed in the morning.
The Spartans opened with a 1-over par 289 before coming back with a 10-under par 278 in the afternoon round, tied for the fourth-best score in the second round. MSU is in eight place among 16 teams at 9-under par 567.
Illinois leads the field at 24-under par 552, with Kansas second at 20-under par 556, Notre Dame in third, New Mexico fourth at 19-under par 557 and host Northwestern fifth at 18-under par 558.
Junior Lorenzo Pinili is the top finisher for the Spartans, standing in a tie for 16th place at 4-under par 140 (72-68). Pinili had a team-best 4-under par 68 in the second round, hitting seven birdies during his round.
Senior Caleb Bond is tied for 28th place at 2-under par 142 (72-70), closing his afternoon with a 2-under par 70 in the second round.
Graduate Ashton McCulloch is one shot back, tied for 33rd place at 1-under par 143 (74-69). After an opening round 2-over par 74, McCulloch came back with a 3-under par 69 in the afternoon.
Junior Lucas Acevedo is tied for 47th place at 1-over par 145 (71-74) and sophomore Drew Miller is tied for 83rd place at 9-over par 153 (82-71).
Playing as an individual, sophomore Juan Velasquez is tied for 47th place at 1-over par 145 (74-71).
Tee times for the final round will be set on Tuesday upon the completion of the second round.
