Three in the Top-20 as Men’s Golf Team in Fifth Place at Canadian Collegiate Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team shot a 1-under par 287 in the first round and is in fifth place among 11 teams at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational, being played at Öviinbyrd Golf Club in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament continues on Monday, Sept. 15 with 18 holes and the final round on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Notre Dame leads the field at 12-under par 276, with Michigan in second, Missouri in third place at 7-under par 281, UNCW fourth at 6-under par 282 and the Spartans are five shots back at 1-under par 287.
Senior Caleb Bond leads the Spartans, firing a 4-under par 68 to stand in a tie for fifth place. Bond finished his round with five birdies and 12 pars.
Juniors McCoy Biagioli and Lorenzo Pinili are tied for 16th place after both posted rounds of 1-under par 71. Biagioli had three birdies and 13 pars with a pair of bogies coming in two of the last three holes. It was an up-and-down round for Pinili with five birdies and four bogies to go with nine pars.
Graduate Ashton McCulloch is tied for 43rd place at 5-over par 77 and freshman Connor Fox is tied for 49th place at 6-over par 78.
Sophomore Juan Velasquez, playing as an individual, shot a 1-over par 73, including an eagle on the par-4, 327-yard 10th hole, and is tied for 27th place. After playing the front nine in five-over par, Velasquez played the back in four-under par, with his eagle and three birdies.
The Spartans will tee off on Monday, Sept. 15 at 9 a.m., playing alongside Missouri and Miami (Ohio).
