Day One Results
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's men's golf team shot a 17-under par 559 over two rounds and is tied for fifth place among 12 teams after the first day of play at the season-opening Island Resort Intercollegiate, being played at Sage Run Golf Course in Bark River in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament concludes on Monday, Sept. 1 with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
The Spartans played the morning round at 6-under par 282 before coming back with an 11-under par 277 in the second round, finishing the day at 17-under par 559.
West Virginia leads the field at 40-under par 536 (266-270), with Purdue in second place at 35-under par 541 (277-264), St. Mary's (Calif.) in third place at 25-under par 551 (280-271) and Michigan in fourth place. The Spartans stand tied for fifth place with UCF, just four shots out of the top four teams.
Junior McCoy Biagioli, a transfer from Ferris State, leads the Spartans at 8-under par 136 (67-69) and is tied for seventh place in the field of 84.
Senior Caleb Bond is tied for 23rd place at 4-under par 140 (71-69) and freshman Connor Fox is tied for 34th place at 2-under par 142 (73-69).
Sophomore Julian Menser shot a 1-under par 143 (71-72) and is tied for 39th place and junior Lorenzo Pinili is tied for 46th place at even par 144 (74-70).
The Spartans have three playing as individuals, with junior Lucas Acevedo tied for 16th place at 5-under par 139 (68-71). Graduate Ashton McCulloch is tied for 23rd place at 4-under par 140 (70-70) and sophomore Juna Velasquez is tied for 39th place at 1-under par 143 (74-69).
