EAST LANSING, Mich. – 2025 Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner Isaac Howard has been named to the 2025 U.S. Hockey Men's National Team in advance of the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championships, which takes place May 9-25 in Herning, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden. All U.S. games in the tournament will air live on NHL Network.
One of just three players on the 23-man roster that played collegiate hockey last season, Howard joins a group that prior to today's additions already included eight first-round NHL Draft picks and over 4,500 games of NHL experience. Michigan State head coach Adam Nightingale was announced as an assistant coach for Team USA on April 22 and will join Howard overseas.
Howard has extensive international experience with USA Hockey, leading Team USA to a gold medal at the 2024 IIHF U20 World Junior Tournament, scoring twice in the second period of the gold medal game. In 2021, Howard helped Team USA to gold at the U18 World Junior Championships, scoring one goal and tallying three assists in five games. Howard and Team USA took fifth at the 2022 U18 World Junior Championships where Howard scored six goals and helped on five assists in six contests.
Team USA will train in Dusseldorf, Germany, starting May 2 and will play a pre-tournament game against Germany on Sunday, May 4. The U.S. opens competition in the IIHF Men's World Championship against Denmark on May 9 at 2:20 p.m. ET. Team USA is in Group B with Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Norway and Switzerland with group stage games being played in Herning. Each city (Herning and Stockholm) will host two quarterfinal games, with both semifinals, along with the bronze and gold-medal games taking place in Stockholm.
Howard is coming off one of the most impressive offensive seasons in program history in 2024-25 where he earned First Team All-American honors and was named Big Ten Player of the Year in addition to becoming the third Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner in program history (Kip Miller '90, Ryan Miller '01). His 1.41 points per game ranked first nationally and his .70 goals per game were good for third nationally.
