
Spartan Women’s Tennis Falls In Penultimate Home Match

EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 58 Michigan State women's tennis fell to the No. 17 ranked Washington Huskies in a 4-0 deficit during their Saturday matinee match at MSU Indoor Tennis Center, in MSU's penultimate home match of the regular-season.
The Green & White slide to 12-10 overall and 4-7 in Big Ten Conference play.
Washington advances to a near-perfect 17-2 overall record and 9-1 B1G record.
The match kicked off in a demanding manner, with Washington's No. 48 ranked doubles pairing of Reece Carter/Alexia Jacobs taking No. 1 doubles 6-1 against MSU's freshman/senior duo of Ellie Blackford/Liisa Vehvilainen.
Following and ensuring the doubles point for the Huskies was No. 3 doubles, where the freshman/junior pairing of Amara Brahmbhatt/Matilde Morais was defeated, 6-4 against Washington's Carina Syrtveit/McKenna Koenig.
The Spartans knew what had to be done in singles play, but they had their work cut out for themselves.
Redshirt-sophomore Oriana Parkins-Godwin was first to fall after putting up a fight against Carina Syrtveit, 6-4, 6-4.
The battles continued in a fierce manner, but Washington allotted another point at No. 2 singles with Ellie Blackford being defeated by Erika Matsuda 6-3, 6-4.
Locking the win down for the Huskies was McKenna Koenig at No. 4 singles against Morais, where the match was secured in a 6-1, 6-4 Spartan defeat.
The remaining singles matches went unfinished.
Michigan State returns to the courts Sunday, April 13 morning in a 10:30 a.m. matchup against Oregon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
