No. 11 Michigan State Stumbles at Home Against Indiana, 71-67

EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 11 Michigan State fell behind at the half and could not recover as Indiana handed the Spartans their first home loss of the season, 71-67, at the Breslin Center on Tuesday night.
Senior guard Jaden Akins scored 14 points to lead the Spartans, while freshman guard Jase Richardson added 13 points and six rebounds and senior forward Frankie Fidler added 12 points.

Michigan State falls to 19-5 overall and 10-3 in the Big Ten Conference, while Indiana improves to 15-10 overall and 6-8 in league play.

- Michigan State jumped out to an early lead, fell behind by three points (32-29) at the break and Indiana pushed its lead to nine points (48-39) midway through the second half before the Spartans pulled to within two points, 50-48, on free throws from junior center Carson Cooper with 6:25 to play.
- Fidler hit a jumper to make it 52-50, with 5:31 left and free throws from junior guard Tre Holloman with 4:20 left made it 55-52, but Indiana scored six-straight points to take a 61-52 lead on a layup from Malik Renau with 3:14 left in the game.
- The Spartans continued to chip away and pulled to within two points, 62-60, on a layup from Akins with 32 seconds left, but Indiana hit 9-of-10 free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.
- Indiana scored the first six points of the second half and extended its lead to nine points, 38-29, before a driving layup from Akins at 16:38 gave MSU its first points of the second half and snapped a scoreless streak of 7:33 going back to the first half.
- Akins followed with a 3-pointer at 14:15 cutting the lead to 38-35, but the Hoosiers responded with baskets from Luke Goode and Malik Reneau gave IU a 42-35 lead.
- The Spartans pulled to within three points, 42-39, on free throws from Frankie Fidler with 10:25 left to play, but IU again pulled ahead, with a layup from Myles Rice giving the Hoosiers a 48-41 lead with 8:29 left, setting up the final minutes.
