
MSU Women’s Tennis Has Spectacular Saturday At Spartan Invite

Women’s tennis racks up wins during second day of home tournament action.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis continued the second day of the Spartan Invitational, presented by Auto Owner's Insurance, Saturday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center with serious success in singles and doubles contention.
The Green & White hosted Indiana, Minnesota and Xavier, with play starting at 10 a.m. with two rounds of doubles taking place.
The Spartans faced Xavier for their first round of doubles with all three pairings taking success against their Musketeer opponents.
Sophomore Ellie Blackford/senior Matilde Morais took their match against Abby Nugent/Cara Owen in a 6-3 victory.
Senior Issey Purser/redshirt-junior Hanna Tsitavets dominated their Musketeer pairing of Ellasyn DeFord/Emily Flowers 6-2.
Closing out the first doubles sweep for the Spartans was senior Sarah Fazlagic/redshirt-junior Oriana Parkins-Godwin, who won 6-4 versus Xavier's Abigail Siminski/Ellie Brotherton.
Round two of doubles solidified the Saturday doubles sweet for the Green & White.
First to finish was the Fazlagic/Parkins-Godwin duo, who faced off against Minnesota's Analin Xie/Nora Knezevic. The pairing dominated the match, not allowing the Gophers a single point, and taking the match, 6-0.
Following in suit was the Purser/Tsitavets tandem, who took their match against Jeselle Ante/Sofia Pinto by a 6-4 score.
Last to officially secure the doubles sweep for MSU was the Blackford/Morais pairing, who came back from being down against Anali Kocevar/Mia Liepert, 3-4, before the Green & White pair forced a tie break, ultimately taking the match in a 7-6 (7-5) victory.
Singles matches against Indiana kicked off at 3:30 p.m.
Fazlagic was first to fall in her match, with Hoosier Chase Boyer taking the match, 6-1, 6-2.
Following closely behind Fazlagic was Morais, who dropped her match, 6-2, 6-2 to Alessandra Teodosescu of Indiana.
Blackford was the first to tab a singles victory for the Spartans, going 6-2, 6-1 against Ameia Sorey.
Following in a victorious fashion was Parkins-Godwin, who won her match, 6-4, 6-1 versus Ellie Brotherton.
After splitting sets with Magdalena Swierczynska, Spartan Issey Purser came back and dominated her third set, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 to secure a singles win.
Finishing out the night was Hanna Tsitavets, who also split her set against Elisabeth Dunac. after Dunac came back and secured the match against Tsitavets 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The Spartans return to the courts on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. to compete in the final day of the Spartan Invite presented by Auto Owner's Insurance.
