East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State freshman Carmen Pucheta (Cordoba, Argentina) has added to her considerable list of post-season honors, as she was announced as a First Team All-West Region selection by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Wednesday.Â
Full NFHCA Release
Pucheta becomes the 23rd Spartan to earn NFHCA All-Region honors in program history, and it is the 40th selection to an all-region team overall. MSU's last First Team All-Region pic was Heather Howie in 2015, and the Spartans have had four Spartans earn Second Team All-Region honors since: Kendal Anderson (2016), Simone Vagnoni (2016, 2017), Cara Bonshak (2020), and Merel Hanssen (2021, 2022).Â
Â
The first-year standout was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year as well as a First Team All-Big Ten pick, and also earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. She is the first Spartan in program history to earn a spot on the First Team and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season.
  Â
Pucheta started all 18 games for MSU one of eight Spartans and three freshmen to do so. She was a force both offensively and defensively for the Spartans throughout the season – compiled a 4-2-10 scoring line (tied with Lilian Knorr as the team's top-scoring first-year player) but her presence was felt far more than just on the scoreboard.Â
Â
MSU completed the season with an 8-10 overall record, and lose four seniors to graduation.
