
MSU Cross Country Ends the Regular Season with Strong Showing at EMU Fall Classic

EAST LANSING, MICH. - Michigan State men's and women's cross country closed out the regular season at the EMU Fall Classic at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Michigan on Friday.
The men's 5k started off the action with the Spartans coming out strong. Running unattached, Evan Loughridge won the race with a time of 14:58.70. He was the only athlete in the race to finish in under 15 minutes. Also running unattached, Jasper Cane was with a time of 15:03.10.
Brendan Favazza was the top MSU attached runner, crossing the line in 15:14.10, which was good for fifth overall. Matt Zeleke finished sixth with a time of 15:16.70, which was a new 5k personal best. Owen Gilbert (15:25.50) and Joseph Bowman (15:27.40) both had a strong showings, as well. Gilbert set a new personal best at the EMU Fall Classic.
In the women's 5k, Madison Osterberg ran unattached, winning the race with a time of 17:42.30. Meghan Ford also ran unattached and finished sixth with a time of 18:13.10.
Reese Powers was the top attached MSU runner with a 13th-place finish (18:34.50), while Meghan Beute followed right behind (18:36.90). Allison Chimielweski crossed the line in 18:37.00.
Following the EMU Fall Classic, the Spartans will prepare for the Big Ten Championships in Champaign, Illinois and hosted by the University of Illinois. The Spartan women are back-to-back champions and have won four of the last five. Last season, the men finished third.
