EAST LANSING, MICH. - Michigan State Athletics and PNC Bank are partnering to recognize the PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month. Throughout the 2021-22 season, deserving Spartan student-athletes will be recognized for displaying well-rounded achievement through leadership in the classroom, in the community, and in competition.
The honorees for January are Jori Jackard (gymnastics), Adjoni Kirkland (men's track & field) and Sydney Naro (women's golf).
Jackard, a junior from Haslett, Mich., is a psychology major. This season she has been a staple in the Spartans' bars lineup, including placing first vs. Maryland, tying her career high with a 9.925. Last season, Jackard earned Academic All Big-Ten and the WCGA Scholastic All-America Award. With her teammates, she has been active in the community, including taking part in a Breast Cancer Walk each fall and Teams for Toys each winter.
Kirkland, a sophomore from Lansing, Mich., is an applied engineering sciences major. Last year, he earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and was named to the Athletics' honor roll. The team's top long jumper a season ago, he set a personal record of 7.15m at the 2021 Outdoor Big Ten Invite meet. Kirkland has been involved with community activities with many of his fellow Spartan student-athletes.
Naro, a senior from Toronto, is a comparative cultures and politics major. She was named Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar last season. Within the Greater Lansing community, Naro has taken part in many local food drives, in addition to Teams for Toys outreach.
