Michigan State Falls at Notre Dame in ACC/Big Ten Challenge

South Bend, Ind. – No. 12 Michigan State fell behind early and never recovered in a 70-52 loss to Notre Dame in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Purcell Pavilion on Wednesday night.
Junior guard A.J. Hoggard scored 15 points, had three rebounds and three assists to lead the Spartans, while senior guard Tyson Walker finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists and graduate forward Joey Hauser added 12 points and seven rebounds.

- Michigan State went into the half trailing by 18 points, 42-24, and pulled to within 14 points, 54-40, on a putback layup from junior forward Mady Sissoko with 9:19 to play.
- The Spartans had four chances to cut the lead to 12 points, but could not connect and Notre Dame reeled off seven-straight points, pushing the lead back to 21 points.
- Notre Dame opened up an 18-point lead at halftime, with Cormac Ryan scoring 20 points and hitting 7-of-8 shots from the floor, including all five of his 3-point attempts.
- The Irish took their biggest lead of the half, 39-16, on a Ryan 3-pointer with 4:33 left, forcing the Spartans to call a timeout.
- MSU cut the lead to 40-24 after baskets from Hauser and Sissoko in the final minute, but a jumper from JJ Startling with two seconds left pushed the lead back to 18 points.
