
Trio of Spartans Named WGCA All-American Scholars

Sharp, Marfa Sans and Tanida all earned the academic honor.
EAST LANSING - Three Michigan State women's golfers were named to the 2017-18 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholar Team, it was announced by the organization on July 3. Senior Katie Sharp, sophomore Paz Marfa Sans and freshman Yurika Tanida all earned the honor. It marks the second consecutive year both Sharp and Marfa Sans have been named to the WGCA All-America Scholar Team.
A total of 1,011 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with the minimum qualification being a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Sharp recorded the best scoring average of her career at 74.55 this past season. She had a season-high eighth place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational and took 12th at the Big Ten Championships. Sharp has a 3.7 GPA and graduated with a degree in media and information.
Marfa Sans was a first-team All-Big Ten selection as she posted the third-lowest single-season average in program history at 72.29. She has a 3.6 GPA and is a business major.
Tanida posted a 3.6 GPA in her first year in the Green and White. The native of Kanagawa, Japan, appeared in seven tournaments, including each of the final four of the season. She recorded a 75.57 scoring average.
