Sharp has now garnered the honor two consecutive years.
EAST LANSING - Recently graduated Michigan State golfer Michael Sharp has been named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar, it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on July 25. It marks the second straight year Sharp has earned the prestigious accolade.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university. Sharp was one of 265 Division I men's golfers to earn the honor.
Sharp graduated with a 3.97 GPA in actuarial science and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. He was also a second-team All-Big Ten selection and was named to the PING All-Midwest Region Team.
Sharp recorded the sixth-best single season average in program history at 72.76 in 2017-18. His 73.95 career average is also sixth best in MSU history.
The Kendallville, Indiana, native had four top-10 finishes this past season, which was more than any other Spartan. Sharp had one of his best runs of the season early in the spring as he had three top-10 finishes over a span of four tournaments, including: eighth at the Colleton River Collegiate (8-over-par 224); and sixth and both the Seahawk Intercollegiate (1-over-par 217) and Kepler Intercollegiate (1-over-par 214).
Sharp's season best 54-hole mark of 4-under-par 212 at the Bearcat Invitational included his first of two season-best 67s.
Sharp is the fourth player in program history to twice be named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar.Â
