
Spartans Fall to Michigan in Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. â€"No.7-seed Michigan State fell to No.2-seed Michigan, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The team completes the season with a 16-9 record, including a 7-6 mark in Big Ten play.
Michigan was able to secure the doubles point by winning on courts one and two. Senior Habiba Shaker and freshman Sara Kuuttila fell to Kate Fahey and Brienne Minor, 6-3.
Senior Lexi Baylis and freshman Ava Thielman won their match against Chiara Lommer and Lera Patiuk, 7-5, to even the race for the doubles point.
However, the Wolverines then clinched the doubles point on court two as the duo of juniors Emily Metcalf and Davina Nguyen fell to Alyvia Jones and Mira Ruder-Hook in a tiebreak, 7-6 (4).
In singles, Michigan picked up three straight matches on courts one, two and three to clinch the match. Senior Aslina Chua fell to Lommer, 6-1, 6-1, on court two. Then Shaker fell to Fahey, 6-3, 6-3 on court one. The match was clinched at No. 3 singles as Kuuttila fell to Minor, 6-4, 6-2.
The Wolverines advance to the semifinals against the winner of the Illinois/Nebraska match.
