
Cassius Winston Named Big Ten Player of the Week

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State junior men's basketball player Cassius Winston (Detroit, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
This is the second time this season that Winston has been named the league's player of the week. He was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on Nov. 26 following MSU's championship at the Las Vegas Invitational, when he earned Most Valuable Player honors.
In Michigan State's only game last week, Winston scored a game-high 24 points and handed out seven assists with no turnovers. He connected on 8-of-10 shots from the floor, including tying a career-high with six 3-pointers.
Winston leads the Spartans in scoring with 17.5 points per game and in assists with 7.5 per game. He is tied for sixth in the Big Ten in scoring and leads the league, and ranks No. 4 nationally, in assists. Winston also ranks fifth in the Big Ten in 3-point field goal percentage, connecting on 45.0 percent of his shots (36-of-80).
Winston is the only player in the country averaging at least 17.0 points, 7.0 assists and shooting at least 45.0 percent from 3-point land.
Michigan State, 11-2 overall, 2-0 in the Big Ten and No. 8 in this week's Associated Press poll, returns to Big Ten Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 2, hosting Northwestern at the Breslin Center. Northwestern is 9-4 overall and 0-2 in the league. Tipoff is slated for 8:30 p.m. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network, with Dave Revsine and Jon Crispin calling all of the action.
