Meet the Spartans: Peyton Omania

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State wrestling will feature a newcomer weekly throughout the preseason in order to "Meet the Spartans" leading up to the 2018-19 season. This week, freshman Peyton Omania (Concord, California / De La Salle HS) sat down with msuspartans.com to answer some questions.

1. Why did you choose to wrestle at Michigan State?
I saw the brotherhood and culture of the team in my visit and felt welcomed by the staff and wrestlers and knew that I belonged here.

2. What are you most excited about as you begin your Spartan wrestling career?
I'm excited to reach my full potential.

3. When did you first start wrestling?
I started wrestling when I was five years old.

4. Favorite wrestling memory?
My favorite wrestling memory is the 2018 State Semi-Finals.

5. What's your major at Michigan State and why?
Undecided because I want to find something I enjoy doing before I commit.

6. Who has taught you the most about wrestling growing up?
Mark Halvorson

7. What superhero power would you have if you could choose one?
None, I want to be Ironman.

8. Favorite meal?
Chicken and Waffles

9. Favorite TV show?
King of the Road

10. Favorite thing to do besides wrestling?

Prior to MSU: Coached by Mark Halvorson at De la Salle ... three-time league champion, two-time section champion and two-time placer at State ... Fargo runner-up All-American in 2015 and runner-up in 2017 ... member of the 2016 Cadet World team.

Personal: Son of Jason and Rachel Omania ... biggest wrestling influence is Lucas Sheridan, a De la Salle and Indiana wrestling alum ... lists his idol as his grandfather because of how hard he works ... is undecided in his intended major at MSU.
