
Spartans Fall to No. 4 Georgia, 4-0

ATHENS, Ga. - The Michigan State women's tennis team fell in a hard-fought battle with No. 4 Georgia, 4-0 on Friday afternoon. It was the Spartans first loss of the season, as they are now 4-1 on the year.
The Bulldogs won the doubles point after winning on courts two and three. On court two, senior Habiba Shaker and freshman Sara Kuuttila fell to the #6 doubles pair in the nation, Morgan Coppoc/Elena Christofi, 6-2. In No. 3 doubles, senior Lexi Baylis and freshman Ava Thielman fell to the #24 ranked doubles pair in Georgia's Katarina Jokic/Mariana Gould.
In No. 1 doubles, the duo of juniors Emily Metcalf and Davina Nguyen were leading 5-3 when the doubles point was clinched.
In singles play, the Spartans fell on courts one, three and four. Senior Aslina Chua battled against No. 12 ranked Katarina Jokic, 6-1, 6-2. Kuuttila dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 3 singles against #51 Marta Gonzalez. Georgia clinched the match on court three with Elena Christofi defeating Metcalf, 6-2, 6-1.
Georgia advances to the championship match tomorrow against No. 50 Penn at 1 p.m.
The Spartans will return to the court tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. in the consolation match against Furman.
