EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State wrestling will feature a freshman periodically throughout the preseason in order to "Meet the Spartans" leading up to the 2017-18 season.
This week freshman Clay Smith (Stafford, Virginia/Colonial Forge High School) sat down with msuspartans.com to answer some questions.
1. Why did you choose to wrestle at Michigan State?
I have yet to reach my potential as a wrestler, and I believe MSU is the right place to do that.
2. What are you most excited about as you begin your Spartan wrestling career?
I am excited to compete at a high level and wrestle the best competition in the country.

My major is undecided, because I want to explore my options and be open to all the academic opportunities that MSU has to offer.
6. Who has taught you the most about wrestling growing up?
My father has taught me the most about wrestling growing up. He was my first coach, and is still my biggest supporter. He has a tremendous wealth of knowledge regarding wrestling, and he knows way too many people in the small world of the sport.

I would want to be able to fly of course.
