With Tuesday night's eight-point victory, 14 of the last 17 games in the series history between MSU and OSU have been decided by 10 points or less.
Michigan State's two Ohio natives Nick Ward and Kyle Ahrens combined to score 18 points. Ward scored 15 and added five rebounds, while Ahrens hit a big three to give MSU a 12-point in the final four minutes.
Alvin Ellis scored a team-high 18 points to lead three Spartans in double figures. It was the first time in conference play that Michigan State has had three players score 15 or more points, with the only other occurrence this year coming against Mississippi Valley State (11/18).
Alvin Ellis made a career-high six 3-pointers, doubling his previous career high of three. Five of those 3-pointers came in the first half. MSU is now 4-0 this season when Ellis scores in double figures.
Cassius Winston led the Spartans with nine assists and MSU assisted on 20 of its 25 made field goals. The nine assists were the most by a Spartan in a Big Ten game this season.
Miles Bridges tallied his sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds and MSU is 5-1 when the freshman records a double-double. It was his second consecutive double-double and he is the first Spartan to have a double-double in back-to-back games this year.
MSU held Ohio State to 41.7% (25-60) shooting from the field. The Spartans are holding their opponents to 36.9% from the field in Big Ten victories this season.
One game after all four Spartan freshmen scored in double figures, they combined to score 47 of the 66 points against the Buckeyes.
