
Women's Tennis Defeats Xavier, 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team improved to 7-1 on the season with a 5-2 win over Xavier on Sunday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Spartans took the doubles point, as they have in all seven wins this season, before Emily Metcalf, Davina Nguyen, Lexi Baylis and Athena Trouillot all picked up wins in singles play to give MSU the victory.
Nguyen and Metcalf were paired on the second doubles court and picked up a 6-2 win, while Samantha Memije and Trouillot won 6-2 on third doubles.
Emily Metcalf won her seventh consecutive match at singles in a close, three-set match that the sophomore closed out with a 10-6 win in the third-set tiebreaker. Nguyen improved to 10-5 on the year with win in straight sets, while Baylis and Trouillot each closed out their opponent in the minimum number of sets.
The Spartans will conclude their homestand as they host Cincinnati on Saturday, Feb. 18, with the match set to begin at 10 a.m.
