Spartans in Sixth After Two Rounds at Quail Valley

VERO BEACH, Florida - The Michigan State men's golf team is tied for sixth place after two rounds of play at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate in Vero Beach, Florida. The Spartans shot a 6-under-par 282 in round one and were one shot better in the afternoon with a 7-under-par 281 to finish the day 13-under-par 563 at the 7,350-yard Quail Valley Golf Club. MSU is tied with Louisiana Monroe for sixth place and just two shots out of the top three.
USF leads the 15-team field at 24-under-par 552 (279-273), six strokes ahead of second place Notre Dame.
Kaleb Johnson and Michael Sharp lead all Spartans as both are 5-under-par 139 through two rounds and tied for 11th place.
Johnson began the day with a 5-under-par 67 â€" his third best round of the fall. He ended the opening round with two birdies and then an eagle on the par-5, 600-yard third hole. He carded an even-par 72 in the second round.
Sharp turned in a 1-under-par 71 in the opening round. In the afternoon, he birdied the final two holes to register a 4-under-par 68.
James Piot fired a pair of 2-under-par 70s and is 4-under-par 140 for the tournament, tied for 18th place.
Andrew Walker began the day with a 2-over-par 74, but shaved three strokes off his second round score with a 1-under-par 71. He sits at 1-over-par 145 and tied for 48th place.
Charlie Green is 5-over-par 149 (76-76).
Brad Bowen of Memphis and Kevin Connors of Notre Dame are tied for the individual lead at 10-under-par 134.
The third and final round will begin at 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
