Cassius Winston led the Spartans in scoring with 16 points on 3-of-5 shooting, including a career-best 10-for-11 from the line. It was the most Winston has scored in a Big Ten game this season and his first double-digit scoring effort since putting up 15 vs. Northwestern (12/30). Winston had tallied just 15 points in the last four games combined entering Sunday's contest.
Michigan State forced Michigan into nine second half turnovers and 13 for the game. Coming into today, UM led the nation with just 9.2 turnovers per game.
Michigan was held without a field goal over the game's final 6:05. In a game that featured eight ties and 12 lead changes, UM last held the lead at 40-39 with 14:53 in the second half and never led by more than three in the contest.
MSU held Michigan to 34% (19-56) from the floor just a game after the Wolverines shot 63% and scored 90 points vs. Indiana.
Michigan State's four freshmen combined for 45 points in their first rivalry game vs. Michigan.
Matt McQuaid hit all three of his 3-pointers, and it was the first time he's hit that many 3-pointers in a game since Youngstown State (12/6).
Miles Bridges recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. MSU is 3-1 this season when the freshmen records a double-double. Bridges also recorded a career-high three steals.
Nick Ward went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and finished with 13 points. Ward has now scored in double figures in 13 of the last 16 games and the Spartans are 10-4 this season when he scores 10 or more points.
MSU outscored Michigan 34-20 in the paint and 12-0 on the fast break.
Nine different Spartans scored in the contest and MSU's bench outscored Michigan's, 33-15.
