Spartan Women's Tennis Stumbles at Wisconsin, 4-3

MADISON, Wis. - Michigan State's Big Ten road trip concluded with a 4-3 loss at Wisconsin at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Sunday, April 3.
"We played well and fought hard," said head coach Simone Jardim. "We came up short unfortunately, but Wisconsin stepped up, especially during doubles which made a big difference at the end."
In doubles, junior Athena Trouillot and sophomore Aslina Chua notched their first win as a duo this spring. The combination defeated Kelsey Grambeau and Kendall Kirsch, 6-4, on court three. The Spartans (9-8, 1-4 B1G) pushed Wisconsin (5-12, 2-6 B1G) to a pair of 7-6 matches on courts one and two to drop the doubles point.
Freshman Emily Metcalf evened the score, winning at No. 3 singles for the second time this spring, ninth overall. Metcalf took the first set, 6-3, and led in the second set 3-0 before Maria Avgerinos retired.
Senior Emily Meyers gave MSU a brief 2-1 lead over the Badgers, notching her team-best 13th win of the dual season. Meyers only needed two sets, 6-3, 6-4, to knock off Grambeau.
After UW knotted the score at 2 aside, Chua regained the lead for the Green and White with a strong 6-1, 6-4 straight set victory against Lauren Burich.
MSU dropped the final two matches on courts one and two to fall to Wisconsin, 4-3.
Michigan State returns home for a set of home matches against Maryland on April 9 at 11 a.m. and Rutgers on April 10 at 11 a.m.
