Spartans Finish Landfall Tradition in 16th to Conclude Fall

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Michigan State women's golf team's fall schedule came to an end on Sunday at the Country Club of Wilmington as the Spartans finished the Landfall Tradition in 16th place. The Spartans shot a 16-over par 304 â€" their best round of the tournament â€" on Sunday, finishing the event 53-over par (308-305-304—917).
Junior Sarah Burnham led the Spartans with a 3-over par 219 (71-73-75), putting her in 20th place. Her 3-over par 75 on Sunday included a pair of birdies.
Sophomore Carolyn Markley had her best round of the tournament and lowest by a Spartan on Sunday with a 2-over par 74. She also had a team-high three birdies on Sunday and finished in a tie for 52nd with a three-round total of 227 (78-75-74).
After a pair of 81's to start the tournament, freshman Paz Marfa Sans improved by four strokes with a 5-over par 77 on Sunday. She finished the tournament 23-over par (81-81-77--239).
Junior Katie Sharp completed the tournament 17-over par at 233 (79-76-77), tying for 71st place.
Freshman Catherine McEvoy finished her first collegiate tournament 26-over par with a 242. She fired an 80 in the opening round, followed by a pair of 81's.
Wake Forest and South Carolina, both Golfstat top-20 teams, tied for the title at 5-under par. Jennifer Kupcho of Wake won the tournament at 9-under par (207).
This weekend's action was the last for the Spartans this fall as they'll begin play in the spring Feb. 10-12, 2017 at the Seminole Match Up in Tallahassee, Florida.
