Spartans Finish 11th at Mason Rudolph Championship

Katie Sharp shot a career-low 69 in the third round of the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sunday.
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- The Michigan State women's golf team finished in 11th place at the Mason Rudolph Championship with a 23-over-par 887 (295-299-293). The 17-team tournament, which was held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, featured nine teams ranked in the Top 25 at the end of last season. The Spartans concluded the three-day event with their lowest round on Sunday with a 5-over 293, tied for the fourth lowest of the day.
Sophomore Sarah Burnham led the Spartans for the second tournament in a row with a 2-over 218 (74-71-73) and tied for 24th place. Burnham delivered four birdies on Sunday and totaled eight birdies and two eagles for the tournament.
Red-shirt sophomore Katie Sharp carded the lowest round of the tournament by any Spartan with a career-low 69 (-3). Sharp had four birdies and 13 pars against just one bogey during her round and finished at 4-over 220 (76-75-69) to tie for 31st.
Senior Gabby Yurik (74-77-76--227) and freshman Carolyn Markley (73-75-79--227) both tied for 60th place, while senior Alison Knowles tied for 69th (74-80-75--229).
Alabama (848) edged Northwestern (849) by one stroke to claim the team title.
The Spartans return to action Oct. 9-11 for the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
