
No. 14 Wolverines Beat No. 51 Women's Tennis

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 14 Wolverines were too much for the No. 51 Spartans on Friday afternoon at the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center. Michigan won the match, 7-0. The Spartans are now 16-6 on the season and 5-4 in the Big Ten.
"Michigan is a really good team," said head coach Simone Jardim. "We have to give them credit; they were the better team today. There were areas that I was pleased with and there are areas we need to improve on for next week."
Michigan started the day winning the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 1 doubles No. 13 Emina Betkas and Alex Najarian defeated sophomore Erin Faulkner and freshman Allie Baer, 8-3. The Wolverines clinched the doubles point with a victory at No. 3 doubles over junior Emily Meyers and freshman Lexi Baylis, 8-6. Sophomore Athena Trouillot and senior Catherine Parenteau did not finish their match with No. 72 Sarah Lee and Ronit Yurosky at No. 2 doubles.
Faulkner lost to No. 23 Emina Betkas at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Baylis was edged at No. 2 singles by No. 26 Ronit Yurosky, 6-1, 6-4.
At No. 3 singles, freshman Aslina Chua fell to No. 118 Sarah Lee, 6-0, 6-3.
Parenteau fought hard but came up short at No. 4 singles against No. 121 Alex Najarian, 7-5, 6-4, while Trouillot fell at No. 5 singles to Michigan's Mira Ruder-Hook, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 6 singles, Meyers fell in a tight battle to Sara Remynse, 6-2, 7-5.
The Spartans return to action on Friday, April 17 as they travel to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions at 4 p.m. from the Sarni Tennis Center. Michigan State finishes its regular season on Sunday, April 19 at Ohio State at noon.
