Spartans Tie for Sixth at Briar's Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. - The Michigan State women's golf team carded its best single round of the season with a 2-over-par 290 in the third and final round of the Briar's Creek Invitational on Tuesday to finish in a tie for sixth place at the 17-team tournament. The Spartans finished the 54-hole tournament at 32-over-par 896 (313-293-290), which is also their lowest total of the season.
On Tuesday, the Spartans resumed their second round from Monday and also played their third round. Lindsey McPherson and Sarah Burnham each shot even-par (72) in the third round and closed tied for 30th place at 8-over 224. McPherson had two birdies and recorded an eagle on the par-5, 430-yard 10th hole, while Burnham had three birdies.
Gabby Yurik and Katie Sharp were right behind, each tallying a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. Yurik, who had three birdies in her round, tied for 34th place at 225 (78-74-73) and Sharp tied for 41st at 227 (81-73-73).
Alison Knowles carded a 77 in the third round and finished with a 231 (80-74-77).
The Spartans return to action for the Bryan National Collegiate on April 3-5 (Friday-Sunday) at the Bryan Park Champions Course in Browns Summit, North Carolina.
