Spartans Remain in 14th Place at Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - The Michigan State women's golf team carded a 25-over-par 309 in the second round of the Regional Challenge on Monday and is in 14th place at 45-over 613 (304-309) heading into Tuesday's final round. The elite 16-team tournament, which features 10 teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 25, is being held at the par 71, 6,017-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Senior Lindsey McPherson led the Spartans in the second round with a 4-over 75 and is tied for 47th overall at 10-over 152 (77-75).
Junior Alison Knowles, playing in her first tournament wearing the Green and White, is the highest Spartan on the leaderboard in 30th place with an 8-over 150. After pacing MSU with a 74 (+3) on Sunday, Knowles fired a 76 on Monday. Knowles led MSU with three birdies on the day.
Junior Gabby Yurik is tied for 53rd place, just one shot behind McPherson at 11-over 153 (76-77).
Freshman Sarah Burnham rounded out the team's scoring on Monday with an 81 and stands at 163 (82-81) through 36 holes. Senior Trisha Withery shot an 83 in the second round and owns a two-round total of 160 (77-83).
Competing as an individual, freshman Jacqueline Setas has a 168 (86-82).
The third and final round of the Regional Challenge begins with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. ET (8:30 p.m. ET) Tuesday morning; live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
