Women's Tennis Sweeps IPFW

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team improved to 7-1 on the season with a 7-0 victory over the IPFW Mastodons on Sunday evening. The Spartans now have a five-match win streak and have won their last nine home non-conference matches. Michigan State won eight matches on the night.
"We won all seven points on the day and that's all that matters," said head coach Simone Jardim. "Teams are going to come into her as underdogs and be loose. The pressure is on us, as we get better we need to handle the pressure a little bit better. Overall, I am really proud of our performance today."
The Spartans started the night victorious taking the doubles point. It only took 16 minutes at No. 3 doubles for freshman Lexi Baylis and junior Emily Meyers to down Sara Sherif and Alina Schibol, 6-0. The sophomore duo of Erin Faulkner and Athena Trouillot clinched the doubles point at No. 1 doubles, beating Mayu Sato and Marcy Huck, 6-4.
Freshman Allie Baer made quick work of Emily Richardson at No. 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Baer improves to 4-4 on the year.
Athena Trouillot notched her 13th singles victory of the year at No. 4 singles. Trouillot defeated Sara Sherif, 6-2, 6-3.
Lexi Baylis improved her record to 20-3 in singles play on the year. Baylis defeated Alina Schobil at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 1 singles Erin Faulkner earned a victory in a very tight match. After falling in the first set 3-6, Faulkner took the second set, 6-2, and won the tiebreaker, 11-9 to defeat Mayu Sato.
Emily Meyers came from behind to earn a victory at No. 5 singles. Meyers defeated Marcy Huck, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Aslina Chua tallied the Spartans final victory of the night at No. 3 singles. Chua defeated Carlota Trevino, 7-5, 6-4.
Michigan State returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Bowling Green and Toledo at the MSU Indoor Tennis Courts. The action will begin at noon against Bowling Green and at 5 p.m. against Toledo.
