PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - Playing in her first career tournament as a Spartan, junior Alison Knowles shot a final-round 73 on Tuesday to finish tied for 24th place at the Regional Challenge with a 10-over-par 223 (74-76-73). As a team, the Spartans placed 16th with a 925 (304-309-312).

Knowles, a transfer from Louisiana-Monroe who was named the 2014 Sun Belt Golfer of the Year, had to sit out the fall season, but made her mark in the first tournament of the spring season with a top-25 finish. She paced the Spartans in two of the three rounds with her first-round 74 and third-round 73. She tallied a 76 in Monday's second round.
Junior Gabby Yurik (76-77-78) and senior Lindsey McPherson (77-75-79) each tied for 62nd place with an 18-over 231.
Freshman Sarah Burnham carded the fourth counting score for MSU in the third round with an 82 and finished at 245 (82-81-82). Senior Trisha Witherby shot a 247 (77-83-87).
Competing as an individual, freshman Jacqueline Setas collected a 252 (86-82-84).
The Spartans return to action for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship in New Orleans on Feb. 22-24.
