MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. â€" The Michigan State wrestling team dropped a road dual at No. 21 Central Michigan, 33-0, Sunday afternoon at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas (4-0) won two of the first three matches by just one point, as Mitch Rogaliner lost a 3-2 decision to Brent Fleetwood at 125 pounds and Garth Yenter came up just short against 14th-ranked Zach Horan at 141, 4-3.
CMU has three top-10 wrestlers in its lineup, and all three of those starters notched victories on Sunday.
Minkel was part of a prematch ceremony recognizing the 1985-86 CMU wrestling team, the first in school history to win a Mid-American Conference championship. A three-time All-American at CMU, Minkel was an assistant on that championship team under former Chippewas coach Chick Sherwood.
The Spartans (0-5) return to action Thursday, Dec. 10 to face Michigan at 7 p.m. in Ann Arbor. The match will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
