Denzel Valentine has tied the tournament record for most 3-point field goals in a single-game, knocking down seven from beyond the arc against Boise State. The seven 3-pointers matched Santa Clara's Evan Roquemore's seven 3-pointers against Oklahoma in 2011 and Jared Brownridge's against Arizona in 2015.
Valentine is the Wooden Legacy record holder for most 3-point field goals made in one tournament. He has made 13 3-pointers in the past two games, passing the mark of 12 set by Roquemore in 2011.
Valentine is on pace, averaging 30.5 points per game, to set the DIRECTV Wooden Legacy scoring record. James Harden of Arizona State currently holds the record with 87 points in 2008. Harden scored 15 against Charlotte, 32 versus Baylor and 40 against UTEP.
Valentine's 32 points on Friday night were the most scored by a Spartan since Adreian Payne recorded 41 points against Delaware on March 20, 2014.
Valentine's six assists tied Steve Smith for 10th in school history with 453.
Sophomore Javon Bess set a career high, pulling down nine rebounds on Friday night. Bess' former career best was eight, which came against Texas Southern on Dec. 20, 2014.
Michigan State notched 23 assists on 25 made field goals.
The starting lineup of Javon Bess, Bryn Forbes, Matt Costello, Denzel Valentine and Tum Tum Nairn Jr. is now 6-0 after downing Boise State.
