Trouillot, Nguyen Beat Top Seed in Doubles to Advance

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Junior Athena Trouillot and freshman Davina Nguyen highlighted the Michigan State women's tennis team's day at the ITA Midwest Regionals on Saturday at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor by advancing into the quarterfinals of the doubles draw.
Trouillot and Nguyen's 8-6 victory over the top-seeded combination of Yuliya Shupenia and Rebeca Mitrea of DePaul moved the duo into the quarterfinals. They will match up with Klara Supejova and Andrea Martinovska of Eastern Michigan in the round of eight.
Sophomore Lexi Baylis and Trouillot both notched wins in round one before dropping their second matches in the singles main draw. Baylis defeated Maria Avgerinos of Wisconsin in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Baylis' day came to a close with a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Michigan's Kate Fahey.
Trouillot's first round win came against Brooke Rischbieth of Northwestern, 7-5, 6-4, before she ran into Alexis Casati of Illinois, in round two, going down in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Junior Erin Faulkner battled against Klara Supejova of Eastern Michigan in the main singles, but dropped the first set 7-5. Faulkner was unable to recover, dropping set two, 6-2. Nguyen lost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to Wisconsin's Ekaterina Stepanova.
Doubles continues on Sunday with the quarterfinals and semis, as singles will play through the round of 16.
