Trouillot Advances at ITA Midwest Regionals

Singles Qualifying | Main Draw Doubles
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Junior Athena Trouillot opened the ITA Midwest Regionals at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor on Thursday, Oct. 22, with a pair of wins in the qualifying draw. Trouillot advances to Friday's third round.
"Aslina really worked hard to gain a foothold in her match," said assistant coach Tyler Faulkner. "Athena came out very strong in her first match, and she played some clean, error free tennis. Against Wisconsin, she showed a lot of grit and toughness in the first and third set becuase she found a way to win."
Trouillot began the bracket with an impressive 6-0, 6-2 win over Detroit's Nynke Van Der Groot. In round two, she battled through a three-set thriller to knock off Sydney Rider of Wisconsin. After taking the first set, 6-4, Trouillot rebounded from a second-set loss to capture the third, 6-4.
Sophomore Aslina Chua's singles tournament came to a close on the opening day after falling to Noelly Nsimba of Youngstown State in three sets. Chua clawed out a 7-5 victory in the second set following a 6-0 loss in set one. After evening the match, she stumbled 6-2 in the deciding set. Chua went on to defeat Leshia Gadacz of Chicago State in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, in a consolation match.
Trouillot faces off against Cleveland State's Mathilde Orange at 9 a.m. on Friday. Main draw doubles begins tomorrow. Trouillot and doubles partner freshman Davina Nguyen, along with the duo of junior Erin Faulkner and sophomore Lexi Baylis have first round byes to begin the bracket.
