Sept. 11, 2014 EAST LANSING, Mich. - The seventh-ranked Michigan State men's soccer team lost, 1-0, to a tough Valparaiso squad Thursday evening. Junior goalkeeper Zach Bennett gave up a single goal in the 58th minute, bringing 347 minutes of scoreless minutes from opponents in 2014 to a close.
Offensively, the Spartans picked up 17 shots. Senior Tim Kreutz battled his way into the box and Zach Carroll lobbed the ball to force saves from the Crusader keeper for MSU's two shots on goal.
On defense, Bennett nearly doubled his total saves on the year, picking up four against Valpo. In the first half, the defensive line, consisting of Carroll, Ryan Keener, Andrew Herr and Brad Centala, only allowed a single shot close enough to force a save.
The Spartans (2-1-1) look to rebound on Sunday, when they face Loyola Chicago at 2:30 p.m. for Alumni Day.
