EAST LANSING, Mich. - Former Spartan Liz Nagel tied for 35th in the final round of LPGA Qualifying School (Dec. 3-7) in Daytona Beach, Florida, and has earned Priority List Category 17 status for the upcoming year.
Nagel got off to a blazing start with a 4-under-par 68 in the first round and a 3-under 69 in the second round to put her in the top 10. She followed with a pair of 73s in the third and fourth rounds before closing with a 77 to end up at even-par 360 in the five-round final stage.
The top-20 placewinners at LPGA Qualifying School earn Priority List Category 12 status, while places 21-45 (including ties) earn Category 17 status.
Nagel, a native of DeWitt, Michigan, was a three-year starter at Michigan State who finished her career this past spring with the fourth-lowest scoring average in school history (75.65). She was a first-team All-Big Ten selection as a senior in 2013-14 after firing a career-low 74.33 scoring average, the eighth-lowest single-season average at MSU.
Nagel is the fourth Spartan to earn LPGA status under MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll, joining Emily Bastel, Sara Brown and Allison (Fouch) Duncan.
