EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's golf junior Dan Ellis was selected to the PING All-Midwest Region Team, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Wednesday.
"Another nice accolade for Dan for the solid season that he had," said MSU head coach Casey Lubahn. "It is a testament to his hard work, and the belief he had in the strategy and structure we had in place for this season. We look for him to continue progress this summer and into his senior season."
Ellis led Michigan State with a 73.06 stroke average this season, which ranked ninth on the Spartan single-season list. It was a breakout season for Ellis, whose previous season low was 75.4 last year. The Negaunee, Mich. native, led the Spartans in eight of the 11 stroke play events this season, posting top-20 showings in seven of those events and top-5 in four. He tied for fifth at Big Ten Championship, earning all-championship honors in the process, and was just the third Spartan to qualify to the NCAA Regionals as an individual.
Ellis is the 12th Spartan overall to earn PING All-Region honors.
A total of 155 players across six regions - Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West - earned all-region honors for 2012.
