Spartans in 12th Place at NCAA East Regional

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Michigan State women's golf team is in 12th place following two rounds at the NCAA East Regional held at the Penn State Blue Course. The Spartans carded a team score of 304 on Friday and are at 604 for the tournament, currently five shots behind eighth-place Washington.
MSU will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Saturday on hole 10, along with Campbell and Tulane, for the third and final round of the tournament.
Junior Caroline Powers led MSU on Friday with a 1-under 73 and is tied for 13th overall at 3-over 147. Powers started her round with eight straight pars and a birdie on holes 10-18 to card a 1-under 35. She finished her round on holes 1-9 with a 2-over 38, but did close with a birdie on the par-5 ninth.
Senior Lindsey Solberg posted 15 pars and three bogeys in her second round to compile a 3-over 75. Solberg is tied for 31st with a 5-over 149 (74-75).
Sophomores Allyssa Ferrell and Christine Meier rounded out the team scoring for MSU on Friday. Ferrell posted a 5-over 77 and is at 155 (78-77) through two rounds, while Meier shot a 79 and is at 161 (82-79).
Red-shirt sophomore Liz Nagel carded an 80 in the second round and is tied for 71st with a 154 (74-80).
