
Women's Tennis Shutout by Northwestern

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team (8-9, 0-6 Big Ten) suffered a 7-0 loss to No. 14 Northwestern. The Spartans and Wildcats faced off today at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. This is only the second time this season that the Spartans failed to record a point in a match.
The Spartans were swept in doubles play by the Wildcats. Sophomore Marina Bohrer and redshirt junior Dana Guentert fell to Nida Hamilton and Brittany Wowchuk, 8-3, on court two. At the No. 3 spot, Linda Abu Mushrefova and Veronica Corning dropped the duo of Katarina Lingl and Julianne Gruber by a score of 8-1. Juniors Nicole Herzog and Michaela Silesova were blanked, 8-0, by Kate Turvy and Belinda Niu.
In singles play, Gruber fell short to Hamilton in the first set 7-6. The freshman fell in the second set, 6-3, on court six. Bohrer was able to tally a point in each set against Niu at the No. 2 spot, but eventually fell, 6-1, 6-1. Corning dropped Lingl by a score of 6-2, 6-1 on court four.
At the No. 5 spot, Guentert fell to Abu Mushrefova, 6-1, 6-3. No. 63 Brittany Wowchuk edged Silesova, 6-3, 6-0, on court three. At the No. 1 position, No. 21 Kate Turvy blanked sophomore Olga Chernova, 6-0, 6-0.
The Spartans are back in action tomorrow when they host. No. 19 Illinois at 11 a.m.
