No. 23 Spartans Finish Eighth at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 23 Michigan State women's golf team shot a 294 in the third and final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Sunday at the University of Georgia Golf Course to finish in eighth place with an overall score of 881 (296-291-294). The 54-hole score of 881 is second lowest for MSU this season.
Thirteen of the 17 teams in the 40th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic field were ranked in the Golfweek Top 50, including six in the Top 25.
Red-shirt sophomore Liz Nagel led MSU by posting a career-low score of 216 (E) to tie for 13th. The total of 216 also marked the second-lowest score by any Spartan this season (lowest: school-record 208 by Caroline Powers at Tar Heel Invitational). Nagel started the tournament with a 1-over 73 on Friday, then shot a 1-under 71 on Saturday before finishing with an even-par 72 on Sunday.
Junior Caroline Powers carded a 78 on Sunday to finish tied for 22nd overall at 4-over 220 (72-70-78), while sophomore Christine Meier tied for 40th with a 224 (+8) after shooting a 75 in the third round.
Sophomore Allyssa Ferrell tied Nagel for the lowest score on Sunday with an even-par 72 and closed out the tournament at 226 (78-76-72) to tie for 47th. Senior Lindsey Solberg tied for 49th with a 227 (76-76-75).
Michigan State returns to action next weekend (April 6-8) for the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C.
