
Women's Tennis Drops Match to Wisconsin

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Falling in its second-straight match, the Michigan State women's tennis team (8-6, 0-3 Big Ten) was defeated by Wisconsin, 6-1. Redshirt junior Dana Guentert recorded the Spartans' only point in the match with her 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Aleksandra Markovic on court six.
On court one, sophomore Olga Chernova played in a close match with Alania Trgovich, but eventually fell to her opponent, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Nicky Stracar dropped junior Nicole Herzog, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 position while sophomore Marina Bohrer lost to Hannah Berner, 7-5, 6-1.
Junior Michaela Silesova was defeated by a score of 6-4, 6-4 by Sarah Loebel. After losing her first set to Nova Patel on court five, 7-6, sophomore Katarina Lingl won the second set, 6-4. She ultimately took the loss after losing the tiebreaker, 1-0.
The Spartans failed to win a doubles match against the Badgers, even though it was a close match on court one. Herzog and Lingl were edged 9-7 by Trgovich and Berner. Stracar and Patel dropped the duo of Bohrer and Silesova 8-5. The pairing of Guetnert and Gruber were also defeated by a score of 8-5.
The Spartans are on the road next weekend, traveling in their first away conference matches. MSU travels to Indiana and Purdue.
