
Women's Tennis Picks up 6-1 Win Over Detroit

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team captured its sixth win over the University of Detroit this afternoon. The Spartans dropped the Titans by a score of 6-1. Freshman Julianne Gruber notched both a singles and a doubles win today.
In singles play, sophomore Marina Bohrer stayed undefeated at the No. 3 position picking up her fourth win over Raina Halabi, 6-4, 6-1. Sophomore Katarina Lingl improved to 6-1 in singles, notching a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) win over Amanda Cornwell. Gruber also is now 6-1 this season in singles after defeating Julia Fernades, 6-2, 6-2.
At the No. 2 singles spot, sophomore Olga Chernova edged Elena Strakhova, 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Nicole Herzog fell at the No. 1 spot to Chole Karoub, 1-6, 6-4, 11-9.
The Spartans edged the Titans in doubles play to capture the point. Herzog and junior Michaela Silesova battled against Cornwell and Strakova but fell 8-7, (7-4). Gruber and partner freshman Hilary Hager defeated Halabi and Karoug, 8-5. MSU picked up the default win at the no. 3 spot, earning the doubles point.
The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday, February 22nd, when they open up conference play against Michigan at home.
