Michigan State and Texas battled in a close game as the lead changed seven times and the score tied three times. The Spartans have won 69 of their last 70 non-conference home games, and 71-straight games vs. unranked non-conference opponents at Breslin. Michigan State scored 30 points in the paint and 23 off turnovers while limiting Texas to only 16 and 13 respectively. MSU out-rebounded Texas 36-32; the Spartans have out-rebounded all 13 of their opponents this season. Derrick Nix notched his second double-double this season with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Nix also had a record night, setting career-highs in points (25), free throws (11), steals (4) and minutes played (32), as well as a season-high of field goals (7). Michigan State shot 44.7 percent from the field, a season high for a Longhorn opponent. Previously, the highest percentage any team shot against Texas was .413. Branded Dawson matched his season-best of 10 rebounds. Keith Appling notched his ninth game this season and 40th game in his career scoring in double figures. Travis Trice played a season-high of 25 minutes. Michigan State recorded 10 steals, compared to 3 for Texas.
