Women's Golf Leads Fossum Invitational After Two Rounds

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's golf team leads the Fossum Invitational by 20 shots over Ohio State after two rounds of play on Saturday at Forest Akers West Golf Course on the MSU campus. The Spartans carded an 8-over 584 (286-298), while Ohio State is at 28-over 604 (299-305).
MSU's first round team score of 286 tied for the fifth-best round in school history (record: 280).
Junior Caroline Powers sits atop the individual leaderboard after shooting back-to-back rounds of 71; she is at 2-under overall at 142. Powers leads by four strokes over teammate Lindsey Solberg, who is in second place with a 146 (74-72).
Sophomore Allyssa Ferrell is tied for fourth (71-77--148), and Liz Nagel is in 11th (70-80--150).
MSU also fielded a five-person "B" team for the tournament. The Spartans' second team is tied for 11th (317-330--647) and led by freshman Trisha Witherby, who is in 31st place (75-81--156).
The third and final round of the Fossum Invitational is set for Sunday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
