EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team was recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) with All-Academic Team honors for achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2010-11 academic year. It was the second-straight season that the Spartans were honored as a GCAA All-Academic Team.
In all, a total of 103 collegiate teams, including 59 in Division I, earned GPAs of 3.00 or higher this season.
It is the second academic honor for the Spartans by the GCAA this year, as Chris Mory was named a 2010-11 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar. Mory was just the eighth Spartan to be honored, but the fourth in the last three seasons.
Several members of the Spartan men's golf team were also honored by the Big Ten academically early this summer, with five being named Academic All-Big Ten - Jimmy Dewling, Dan Ellis, Dave Ellis, Chris Mory and James Ross. In addition, Dave Ellis was honored as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2010-11 academic year.
