EAST LANSING, Mich. - Four Michigan State golfers - Lindsey McPherson, Christine Meier, Caroline Powers and Lindsey Solberg - will participate in the upcoming second annual Hooters Women's Collegiate Team Championship, the most unique summertime national women's amateur championship. The event, which is being presented by the National Golf Coaches Association, is set to begin Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega, Ga.
Fifty-eight (58) two-person teams, comprised of top current women's collegiate golfers, will be competing. Each team will pair players from the same university in a 54-hole stroke play event. MSU will have two teams at the event: Powers and Solberg, and McPherson and Meier.
The format of the championship is as follows: Day 1 (Aug. 2) - Alternate Shot; Day 2 (Aug. 3) - Best Ball; and Day 3 (Aug. 4) - Aggregate Score of the two players. Teams are comprised of players from all levels of collegiate golf including 47 Division I, six Division II, and five Division III programs.
Achasta, by Reynolds, is a par-72, 6,995-yard Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, located in Dahlonega, Ga., one hour north of Atlanta.
Tickets are free and open to the public. Play will begin daily at 8 a.m. (7:30 a.m. on final round) with tee times starting on both No. 1 and No. 10. Live results of the tournament will be available at www.golfstat.com.
