
Women's Tennis Blanked by Northwestern, 7-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. - In its match honoring the two seniors, Whitney Wilson and Manon Noe, the Michigan State women's tennis team (12-11, 1-9 Big Ten) fell to No. 17 Northwestern (16-7, 9-1 Big Ten), 7-0, on Sunday, April 24 at the MSU outdoor tennis courts. This was the first match of the entire season that the Spartans failed to record at least one point in.
At the No. 1 singles position, sophomore Amy Barton was blanked, 6-0, 6-0, by No. 13 Maria Mosolova. No. 65 Belinda Niu edged freshman Valentina Rusakova, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 2 position. Freshman Marina Bohrer battled against No. 77 Brittany Wowcuk at the No. 3 slot, falling 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5). No. 101 Kate Turvy defeated freshman Olga Chernova, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Nicole Herzog, in the No. 5 position, lost to Linda Abu Mushrefova by a score of 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 6 position, sophomore Dana Guentert was dropped 6-0, 6-7 (8-6), 1-0 (10-7) by Nida Hamilton.
The Spartans fell in all three doubles matches, with Barton and Bohrer dropping their match to Abu Mushrefova and Hamilton, 8-4. Wilson and Herzog were topped, 8-4, by Mosolova and Niu. Wowchuk and Chernyakova dropped sophomore Michaela Silesova and Rusakova, 8-3.
Next up for the Green and White is the Big Ten Tournament which will be hosted by Michigan. Play beings on Thursday, April 28th.
