Women's Tennis Falls to Iowa, 4-3

IOWA CITY, Iowa- - The Michigan State women's tennis team (12-9, 1-7 Big Ten) dropped its fifth straight conference match of the season by falling to Iowa, 4-3, on Friday, April 15. Freshmen Marina Borher and Olga Chernova and sophomore Dana Guentert earned singles victories for the Green and White.
The Spartans were blanked in doubles play, falling in all three matches. At the No. 1 position, No. 24 Sonja Molnar and Jessica Young dropped No. 27 Bohrer and sophomore Amy Barton, 8-3. Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Christina Harazin edged sophomore Nicole Herzog and senior Whitney Wilson, 8-6. Chernova and freshman Katarina Lingl lost a close match at the No. 3 position, 8-7 (8-6).
Bohrer recorded her team best 22nd win at the No. 3 singles position when she defeated Poggensee-Wei, 6-1, 6-0. Chernova notched her first singles victory of the season at the No. 4 spot over Alexis Dorr, 6-4, 7-5. Guentert recorded a win over Cassandra Escobar, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 6 spot.
Barton fell to No. 116 Molnar, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 singles position. Freshman Valentina Rusakova dropped a hard fought match to Young, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4. Herzog suffered a 6-5, 6-1 defeat at the No. 5 position to Harazin.
The Spartans will compete in their last road conference match of the season when they travel to Illinois on Sunday, April 17th at 1 p.m. ET.
